AITop comment: @alexolegimas “I would really recommend that you read the essay, and especially note the link of where the essay comes from. There is only one place currently hosting the essay in full is http://marxists.org. Why? Because Marx used the *premise* of the essay to argue quite literally the same point on political economy. This debate has been happening for more than 200 years: it starts with premise, work out political economy, and on and on. So I'm saying it might be kind of useful to first examine why that premise might be wrong, given how consequential it has been to be wrong about the premise in the past. Every single job that held value in Ricardo's time *was* automated. What is our current prime age employment rate? (it is near an all time high). If you start with the wrong premise, you will get to the wrong political economy implications. It is not "cope" to recognize this. It is also not "cope" to recognize that the economy is not just supply, it is supply and demand, which is why this premise has been shown to be wrong again and again despite the jobs available at the time of these essays (every 30-40 years btw) were actually automated. None of this is to say automation will be good for inequality, or it won't be hugely disruptive. I and many others have been writing about this for a long time. See Mead for example.”
