We all know houses in the US are expensive right now, but the properties bought and sold by the country's most affluent really take the cake.

To find the priciest homes on the market in each US state and Washington, DC, Point2 analyzed their own database, national and local brokerages and articles on verified luxury listings, then ranked the states according to which had the costliest properties overall. The prices displayed are for listings active on September 25.

Key Findings:

  • The most expensive house for sale in any state, and therefore in the country, is 10644 Bellagio Road in Los Angeles, California. Also known as Casa Encantada, the mega-mansion is priced at an eye-watering $250 million.

  • After California, the state with the priciest home on the market is Florida, where 10 Tarpon Isle, Palm Beach, is on sale for $218 million.

  • Of all the properties analyzed, the least expensive is 10701 Old Cheney Road, Lincoln, Nebraska, which is listed at a comparatively more affordable $3,890,000.

The property listed in NC isn’t accurate, it’s not for sale, hasn’t been listed for sale since 2009 and is currently valued at only $2,400,000, according to both realtor.com and Zillow. And listed at $4,307,100 on Trulia. Which is quite a difference between those three sites but still a far cry from the stated $34M above.
    It’s a beautiful house though.

Exactly, as said, we all know houses in the US are expensive right now, but the properties bought and sold by the country's most affluent really take the cake.

I feel ripped off by this list. "7020 Green Oak Drive, McLean" doesn't even have a house on it, it's an empty lot with "dramatic renderings" of boxy contemporary architecture that looks out of place next to the colonial revival architectural style of the mansions around it. Also, it looks like the lot crosses state lines, do they pay taxes for both Virginia and Maryland?
