A Nepo Baby Who Thinks Everyone Else Should Just Work Harder, And More Of This Week's 'One Main Character'
Every day somebody says or does something that earns them the scorn of the internet. Here at Digg, as part of our mission to curate what the internet is talking about right now, we rounded up the main characters on Twitter from this past week and held them accountable for their actions.
Each day on twitter there is one main character. The goal is to never be it

This week’s characters include a guy mad that no women are cooking for him, a very angry Mets fan and a nepo baby who thinks that non-nepo babies should just try harder.
Friday
Jackson Hinkle
The character: Jackson Hinkle, host of “The Dive,” self-proclaimed “most censored man on YouTube,” guy who doesn’t like women very much
The plot: One of the most prevalent types of exhausting posts on Twitter — an evergreen bad take, if you will — is where someone logs on and proudly proclaims that they neither like nor respect women, despite an utter lack of data points that lead them to say so.
Last Friday, the culprit was Jackson Hinkle, a YouTuber who not only seems to yearn for the days when women were relegated principally to the kitchen, but also thinks that men uniquely have the right to hold their alcohol.
Young women these days can't cook like their mother, but can drink like their father.
— Jackson Hinkle 🇺🇸 (@jacksonhinklle) December 16, 2022
That’s a problem.
Just a lot going on here. Very cool!
The repercussion: People not only set Hinkle straight on the facts, but rightly roasted him for suggesting that he neither interacts with women enough to know better, nor seems to be able to cook for and take care of himself. People also pointed out that if we’re comparing genders to the standards of their historical roles, men aren’t doing so hot themselves.
American youth drinking has never been lower.

Your baby-brain sexism is cringe -- can you just be normal? pic.twitter.com/J3FcHUeSWR
how are you 23 and already posting tweets that sound like they came straight out of a Fox News segment targeted towards boomers lol

I can cook like my mother and drink like her too - she was emancipated in Soviet Georgia earlier than her Western counterparts. https://t.co/F3uYeDHnJe

This is slander — I’m a much better drinker than my father https://t.co/GZ2jkj5o5E

I’d much rather be with a hard drinking woman who’s her own person than have a servant shackled to a stove like your dad did to your mom.

Little weird how he’s implying that, traditionally, women have useful life skills and men are just inherently prone to substance abuse, and that’s supposed to be evidence that traditional gender roles are good, actually. Kind of a self own tbh, but if that’s your kink… https://t.co/P94DG8ZSQC

David Axelrod
The character: David Axelrod, Senior Political Commentator at CNN, author, Mets fan???
The plot: In sports, you either win or lose. Well, in American sports, in other countries you can tie and they tie a lot. But fans want to see their teams win, and that usually incorporates spending money. Because in business, you have to spend money to make money. And the more you spend, the more you win, most of the time. Now, the owners and governors of teams are usually billionaires, and it’s their money being used. And if you ask any fanbase, they want their team to spend the most to win the most. This is not controversial.
Until David had something to say about my beloved Mets loading up on free agents this winter (which is objectively awesome and I love to see us spend the big bucks).
As a kid growing up in NYC, I loved the @Mets because they were plucky underdogs. Now they're the team anyone who loves baseball should root against, with a disreputable owner who is so blatantly trying to buy a title that you have to hope he fails. https://t.co/fqrBiZAHzM
— David Axelrod (@davidaxelrod) December 21, 2022
The repercussion: Us Mets fans got real angry at him and we dunked all over him. I can say this, not on the behalf of my employer nor Digg, but as a lifelong Mets fan: he sucks and he should pick another team to root for. We are not the evil empire, or the Yankees; this is a time to celebrate and not one to whine for no reason. Eat it, Axelrod; you’re wrong, buddy!
Nothing could better encapsulate the political movement David Axelrod helped lead than having a meltdown because either 1) a worker who created value is being paid a lot or 2) his favorite team is too good and might win something for a change

Two things David Axelrod loves doing: losing and ensuring more money stays in the hands of billionaires https://t.co/fdXSAVHndv
— Jingle Bell Ruck (@RuckCohlchez) December 21, 2022
“Gotta love those scrappy corporations who hire McKinsey, cut jobs, and are keeping costs down so the owners can pad their pockets. They’re the real underdogs.”
— Nick Francona (@NickFrancona) December 21, 2022
That is how fucking stupid you sound, @davidaxelrod. https://t.co/KcxXiHekD2
actually, an owner being willing to spend a reasonable portion of his ridiculous profits in order to make their team better is a good thing
— [email protected] (@Bill_TPA) December 21, 2022
sorry, David, but the two Mets fans and one Yanks fan who moved into your old Stuy Town apartment back in '07 think it's great.

— Mark (@markzucc0) December 21, 2022
How dare billionaire owners pay for talented labor and build a team with potential to increase their chances of winning!
— Erick Fernandez (@ErickFernandez) December 21, 2022
What a laughable and ridiculous stance after the Wilpons ruined championship hopes by not spending money on players for so long.
all owners should be trying to buy titles - every single owner in baseball **is a billionaire** and has the money and resources to put up the Mets’ roster - most simply don’t care about putting a competitive ball club on the field

Lottie Moss
The character: Lottie Moss, model, defensive nepo baby
The plot: This week’s Twitter discourse is nepotism — specifically, the offspring of the rich and famous, known (not very) affectionately as “nepo babies.” The conversation appears to have been sparked by Vulture’s “definitive taxonomy” of Hollywood’s nepo babies, and has seen a number of privileged public figures embarrass themselves trying to defend having their careers pretty much handed to them.
One such figure is Lottie Moss, sister of Kate Moss, a.k.a one of the most famous models of all time. Lottie, who is a model (a fact totally unrelated to her sister’s success, I’m sure), took to Twitter to offer a confusing but definitely annoying take. (Note the below is a screenshot, because Lottie Moss appears to have since deactivated her Twitter account.)
In her tweet, the 24-year-old expresses her frustration at having to recognize the role nepotism has played in her career. She does acknowledge life isn’t fair — but then says you can achieve your dreams if only you “put your mind to it.” Thanks for the advice!
It’s incredibly frustrating to see someone who was handed opportunities telling other people they just need to work hard to accomplish the same. Meritocracy is not a thing, we all know that, please stop pretending you don’t.
Also, why wade into the discourse at all? You could just say nothing and continue to enjoy your life, or acknowledge your privilege (that’s all many people are asking for) and most will respect you for it. Nepo babies aren’t the victim here; yes, people pointed out that your parents are wealthy and/or successful, but that won’t stop you benefiting from it.
The repercussion: Twitter users were not impressed with Lottie’s take.
Putting my mind to having Moss as surname

they're not blaming nepotism for why they aren't rich - they're highlighting that nepotism plays a major part in the success of a large number of famous peoples' careers. You can earn a lot of things but you can't accomplish being related to someone.
— aaron_fahey_ (@Aaron_Fahey) December 21, 2022
how can I put my mind to it and accomplish being one of the most famous people in the world's sister?

This post just shows how out of touch you are because this was not the conversation being had. nobody is blaming y’all for shit, we’re simply pointing out how a lot of you are so painfully untalented that the only thing holding your careers together IS nepotism.

I worked really hard, put the hours in, took every shift I was physically capable to do and now finally after all these years I'm Kate Moss's sister. Don't let anyone tell you it's not possible!
— Mr Christmas Socko (@laotianrockrat) December 21, 2022
Others pointed out that despite Lottie taking it upon herself to defend nepo babies everywhere, they didn’t actually know who she was.
damn even nepotism couldn't make you successful pic.twitter.com/FfYnWcOCW0
— jess 🛸 (@chiliconcarrot) December 21, 2022
I can see why you’d think that nepotism isn’t a massive advantage given that Kate Moss is your sister and yet you haven’t managed to do anything with that
