The Best Movies You Can Watch For Free In March 2024
From '80s cult comedies to more recent prestige Oscar fare, YouTube has a lot of free movies that we should all be checking out more regularly.

The following list of movies are all free titles — with ads or ad-free if you pay for the premium YouTube Red. Presumably, most of these will rotate, although a few have stayed around for a while, like several of the films in last month's list. It would be impossible to watch them all in that time — and most of them are bad filler — so here are some of the best recommendations, in no particular order, with honorable mentions (mostly ones we've covered in the past) at the bottom.

'Pee-wee's Big Adventure' (1985)

If you grew up in the early '90s like I did, there was almost no escaping Pee-wee Herman and his TV show, live stage performance or movies. A character that worked for both kids and adults, Paul Reubens crafted an iconic fictional figure that will far outlive himself in any other role. RIP and let's all be loners and rebels, for him.

'Clue' (1985)

Another 1985 cult comedy, this adaptation of the board game didn't do well in theaters. It wasn't until VHS rentals, TV reruns and word of mouth got this movie to have the positive spin it (and one that its stacked cast) deserves.

'Clueless' (1995)

Tack on a few more letters to the name to "Clue" and you get a '90s comedy — not about a murder mystery in a mansion, but a teenage coming-of-age film about shopping culture in LA. It's very hard to make it into the lexicon of the wider culture at large, but "as if" totally got supplanted by Alicia Silverstone.

'Last Action Hero' (1993)

This isn't ranked highly on the list of Arnold action vehicles nor is it one of John McTiernan's better directorial efforts. But it should! This has a great meta twist on the genre, sports a hilarious script from Shane Black and is able to incorporate a fantasy film about children alongside some fantastic action sequences.

'The Fighter' (2010)

Is this a traditional sports biopic about a boxer? Yes. Is it vanilla and straightforward? Yes. But as a multiple Oscar-winning film, David O. Russell managed to get some of the best performances out of his cast, who become chameleons and disappear into their roles. Christian Bale, Melissa Leo and Amy Adams rock the hell out of that Boston accent.

'Hugo' (2011)

This is one of the few Martin Scorsese pictures you can show your kids, because this is adapted from a children's book. A sweeping tale about the history of filmmaking, Scorsese is able to blend the past with the future by paying homage to the early 20th century with the use of 3D.

'Doubt' (2008)

The two GOATs of modern acting go at it in a drama about (gulp) believing a Catholic priest did or did not abuse a child. Meryl Streep and Phillip Seymour Hoffman are powerhouses, and command the screen with their presence. It's not for everyone, but if you can handle the ambiguity and subject matter, this can have a real impact.
