Six Great (And Free) Movies You Should Watch On YouTube In August 2023
We don't know how much longer these titles will be available, but as of this month, these are all completely free. Get 'em while they last, folks.

The following list of movies are all free titles β€” with ads or ad-free if you pay for YouTube Red. Presumably, most of these will rotate, although a few have stayed around for a while, like several of the films we've previously listed in our roundups. Many of the older movies, as well as several good documentaries, have all been free for months.

It would be impossible to watch them all in that time β€” and most of them are bad filler β€” so here are our recommendations, in no particular order.

Trailers have been linked for films that don't allow full embeds.

'Carrie' (1976)

Brian De Palma is such an underrated director; more people should be celebrating his work, because he kicks ass. And nothing screams that point more than his adaptation of Stephen King's "Carrie" starring Sissy Spacek. This is a fun roller coaster of a time. Watch the full movie here.

'Doubt' (2008)

This was a big Oscar contender back in the day, and it really holds up. Meryl Streep, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Amy Adams and Viola Davis are giving more than 100 percent of their effort in this drama about a Catholic school where, well, doubt happens.

'Dead Poets Society' (1989)

This one's a perennial movie shown in high school English classes all over the world. You can already hear Robin Williams whisper "seize the day" as soon as you click on the link to rewatch this classic. Watch the full movie here.

'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' (2000)

The future of movies was predicted by 1999's "The Matrix" and 2000's "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" thanks to Ang Lee. Chow Yun-fat and future Academy Award-winner Michelle Yeoh star in this very cool action flick with innovative martial arts sequences.

Every 'Hunger Games' movie

All four of the original "Hunger Games" films are on YouTube right now for free, if you feel inspired to catch up on the lore before the upcoming prequel "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes." (What a terrible name that is.)

'The Big Short' (2015)

The sub-prime mortgage crisis and subsequent 2007 housing market crash is extremely boring to explain, so that's why Margot Robbie in a bathtub had to help out. As well as Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling and Brad Pitt.

I need somebody to explain "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" to me. I mean, it was beautifully shot, the fight sequences were amazing, etc. etc., but was there a story there someplace? If so, how did it end?
