Here at Digg, we try our best to cover the most important and confounding memes that come across the timeline. But the web is littered with tons of great memes that never quite hit the mainstream and instead just bounce around the weird corners of Twitter or Reddit. Enter our recurring feature, Memes, Ranked.

This week, we've got a Threads-based joke, movie characters getting Santa-fied and people reacting to a Paul Mescal rumor.

3. Long-press on Threads

The Meme

Threads, the Meta-owned social network, has been around for over five months and has barely had a moment, let alone a viral one, up until now. While X still appears to be the dominant text-based network, there are many users who have since decamped permanently to Threads, and they've finally come up with their own little quip — about the user experience of Threads. The long-press function of the network was quickly mocked once more and more people learned, or inquired, about its uses.

2. Movie characters with Christmas hats

The Meme

'Tis the season for memes! In this case, it's photoshopping Santa hats onto movie characters in scenes that have no business being festive. Extra comedy points are awarded for changing the original line of dialogue to include as many references and puns as possible for Christmas time. Clearly we're all hanging out at our parents' homes watching Oscar contenders to fill the time, and that leads to great creativity borne out of the sheer boredom from being off work.

1. Paul Mescal running

The Meme

On Christmas eve, one X user posted a scandalous rumor about Irish actor and heartthrob Paul Mescal — specifically, that he takes women he's slept with for walks the following day, before running away and leaving them. The poster didn't cite any sources, there's no reason to believe the accusations are true, but it's funny and X was flooded with memes as a result.

And if you're hungry for more memes, here's the last edition of "The Week's Best Memes,", which featured unhinged AI art, failed entries for Minnesota's new flag, Tiger Woods content and reactions to a sex video filmed in the Senate.

Leaving Twitter to go to a Meta-owned social network is laughable. Pot meet kettle. Frying pan meet fire. Pick your analogy.
