If you're a millionaire, there's a very good chance that you're from the United States. In fact, the US makes up roughly 40 percent of millionaires worldwide in spite of being a little over four percent of the world's population.
Visual Capitalist took data compiled by UBS and Credit Suisse, and made quite an impressive little piggy showing off which countries have the most millionaires. And while there has been a rough conversion to the USD for simplicity, this is based on 2021 data, and hasn't been adjusted for recent inflation. It's also worth mentioning that this includes all assets (not just cash), and excludes household debt.
So even if we're dealing with "paper millionaires" alongside the full-on rich, let's see what kind of interesting tidbits we can discover.
Key Findings:
-
The US has a whopping 22.7 million millionaires β more than the eight next-highest countries combined.
-
In this worldwide list of millionaires, the lowest-rung of wealth, ranging from $1 to $5 million, makes up 87 percent of the list. Those worth over $10 million are just 4.6 percent β the ultra rich.
-
China has the most millionaires in all of Asia with 6.2 million people. While France leads Europe with 2.8 million individuals on the list.
