This 'Wedding Cake House' Is An 1800s Time Capsule, And It's On Sale For $2.65 Million
On a 2.23-acre plot of land in Kennebunk, Maine, is this custard-yellow, gothic-style home that's aptly named "The Wedding Cake House."
The eye-catching Victorian-era property was built back in 1825, and still bears popular architectural and interior design features of the time — like that quaint gingerbread trim at the front, for instance.
Situated right by the Kennebunk River, the home is priced at $2.65 million, and boasts eight bedrooms and nine bathrooms across an impressive 6,263 square feet.
The spacious kitchen, kitted out with modern appliances and fittings, is perhaps the only room in the house that feels truly contemporary.
The reception rooms — one of which has a cozy little reading nook — and the dining room have an unmistakably 19th century feel, with interior design choices that I think we can all agree are pretty dated. There are still plenty of details to enjoy, though — like the peach and pastel blue walls that brighten up the place.
While much of the house might be too old-fashioned for most, ornate fixtures and charming little touches are abundant — like the spiral case, numerous fireplaces, hand-painted murals and many curious portraits dotted around the place.
In addition to the property's main residence, there's a separate apartment above the barn which features a kitchen, two bedrooms, a bathroom, a living room and even a sunroom.
Nope, that's not the end of the tour — this is. As if the seemingly endless living space wasn't enough, the barn and carriage house on the property also offer a huge space for events and entertaining, a sizable lounge and a garage (cars probably not included).
Okay, finished.
