Colorado's Democratic secretary of state, Jena Griswold, has seen an alarming spike in abuse and threats following an unsuccessful attempt to ban Donald Trump from the state's presidential ballot, Rolling Stone has reported. According to data provided by her office, Griswold has been subjected to a 600 percent increase in serious threats.

Key Details

  • Griswold was a co-defendant in a lawsuit filed by Colorado residents that sought to keep Trump off the ballot due to his involvement in the Jan. 6 Capitol attack. The US Supreme Court rejected the case earlier this month.
  • Among the 788 serious threats counted by Griswold's team are threats of rape, murder and violence against her family.
  • "This is the new MAGA strategy," Griswold said. "Spread lies and disinformation, undermine faith in our elections, disenfranchise voters and intimidate election workers."
