OpenAI says ChatGPT Voice can now use plugins such as email, calendar and Slack, and can be used in ChatGPT Work on the web and mobile. In its announcement, the company said the latest app version is rolling out globally.
The change is about making Voice a way to operate more of ChatGPT's existing work surfaces. OpenAI says people can ask by voice to create documents, decks, sites and spreadsheets, or take on browser tasks in Work. That is not a blanket promise that Voice can access every account or service: connected tools still use their own permissions, and access can depend on a person's plan, workspace settings and the rollout.
Models and tools are arriving together
OpenAI says Voice can be powered by GPT-6 Astra, Sol and Luna. The timing overlaps with the company's Sept. 22 introduction of GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna in ChatGPT Work and Codex. Its API changelog records that Sol and Luna were also released in the API that day.
Voice had already gained the ability to use GPT-5.6 or GPT-6 Astra for harder search and reasoning tasks, according to OpenAI's release notes. The company’s Work and Codex guide says Voice is available with Work on web and mobile, and with Work and Codex in the desktop app.
Availability is not uniform
OpenAI’s documentation says the available models and reasoning options vary by plan, workspace settings and rollout access. That qualification matters for the new plugin and Work features as well: a user may need the latest app version, an eligible account and an authorized connected service before the voice interface can do the specific task they ask for.
For now, the concrete change is a wider Voice interface around ChatGPT's work tools, not a separate product with a universal set of permissions. OpenAI's announcement names the supported plugin categories and Work examples, but it does not set out a single availability timetable for every account or integration.
