The following list of movies are all free titles — with ads or ad-free if you pay for the premium YouTube Red. Presumably, most of these will rotate, although a few have stayed around for a while, like several of the films previously listed in roundups.

Many of the older movies, as well as several good documentaries, have all been free for months. Those are all included in the honorable mentions at the bottom of this article. It would be impossible to watch them all in that time — and most of them are bad filler — so here are some recommendations, in no particular order.

Some modern Steven Spielberg joints: 'War of the Worlds,' 'Minority Report,' 'Catch Me If You Can' and 'A.I.'

When Spielberg won the Oscar for Best Director in 1999 for "Saving Private Ryan," many people thought that it would be the last great movie coming from the famous director's stable. How could he possibly deliver another two decades of bangers after such a prolific career?

And then, he went onto make several more major hits to kick off the new millennium. Now you can binge his early 2000s work and see how little Tom Cruise has aged since.

'Mean Girls' (2004)

The new "Mean Girls" that's coming to theaters soon is an adaptation of the stage musical on Broadway, and not a remake of the original film. It's a tad confusing, but you can rewatch the first one and remind yourself why it remains a stone-cold classic. Still extremely funny and quotable to this very day — unless you use the word "fetch," which still won't happen.

'Clueless' (1995)

January is bringing us a lot of female-driven comedies. The last Super Bowl saw the return of Cher Horowitz, in a Rakuten commercial nonetheless, and if you were curious why the internet made such a big deal out of that, then you should definitely check "Clueless" and find out why people are obsessed with that. Is this where the Paul Rudd obsession started too? Him and Tom Cruise haven't aged. It's wild.

'The Ring' (2002)

There was an explosion of Japanese horror film adaptations in the early aughts, and none have been more memorable than Gore Verbinski's "The Ring." It created an entire franchise series, "Scary Movie," to revolve around the creepy idea of little dead girls popping out of TVs and wells.

'Dreamgirls' (2006)

Based on the musical, "Dreamgirls" led the 2007 Oscars in nominations and ultimately won for sound mixing and Best Supporting Actress. Jennifer Hudson completely swept that awards season, and for good reason. She's fantastic. And this was aroujnd the time Eddie Murphy had a revival, in 2006, which started with this movie.

'Hail, Caesar!' (2016)

The Coen Brothers have sort of split from co-directing movies the movies they've written together, which quite bittersweet (each doing their own thing now), but we can still treasure their decades of off-kilter and screwball comedies, like "Hail, Caesar!". It isn't as fondly remembered as their bigger hits, But it should be. It's a terrific ensemble period piece that incorporates as many genres — and references — as it can fit into its short run time.
