If you've scrolled on the app formerly known as Twitter recently, you'll probably have seen people talking about peeling oranges. It's all to do with TikTok's "Orange Peel Theory" posts, in which people ask their romantic partner to peel an orange for them, just because.

The trend, which first went viral back in late 2023 but has had a revival on social media over the past few days, has seen people testing the theory out on their partners to varying degrees of success.

For those who back the theory, it's a kind of litmus test for your relationship β€” you can tell how much your partner loves you based on their willingness to perform the simple task β€” while for others, it's plain nonsense.

Whichever side of the fence you fall on, the trend is β€” for better or worse β€” taking hold, with people turning to platforms from Reddit to TikTok to share how the orange-peeling test played out for them, and ask what it means for their relationship.

The orange peel test is actually a male test of how passive-aggressive your female partner is. It's also a test of how gullible your partner is if they actually believe garbage on social media.
