One Guy Is Bringing The Best Of The Midwest's Modern Architecture To The Internet
If you've spent any time on Digg, you'll know that we love to look at nice buildings — and the site we can no longer call Twitter has become a surprisingly rich source for all things architecture.
One of the most popular accounts on the app is Midwest Modern, run by Josh Lipnik, who travels around the American Midwest photographing its many works of Modern architecture, from the quaint and charming to the strikingly grand.
"I've always had an interest in exploring and documenting cities and architecture," Lipnik tells Digg. "So I had already been doing this as a hobby for years, and thought maybe it would be fun to share my photography on social media."
Lipnik's project has achieved a reach he never anticipated; the page counts more than 110,000 followers at the time of writing.
"I never expected or planned for it to catch on outside of a small niche of architects and designers," he says. "I'm still surprised at how popular the account has become, but I have a better idea of what people like to see now and I try to to make it accessible for anyone, whether or not they have any prior interest in architecture."
Below are some examples of the shots Lipnik shares on X and on his Patreon.
