Gears of War: E-Day is taking up roughly 120GB before its October launch, but players do not have to keep every mode installed. Pure Xbox's preload check measured about 120.5GB on Xbox Series X|S and 120.04GB through the Xbox PC app on September 29.
Those are observed download totals rather than a permanent specification. Day-one updates can change storage requirements, and the report did not provide a Steam measurement. It would therefore be inaccurate to treat 120GB as one exact requirement for every PC and console installation.
The install manager can cut the footprint
Pure Xbox also found a built-in manager that separates Campaign, Horde Siege and Versus. Players can leave out modes they do not plan to use, reducing the installed size instead of reserving space for the full package.
That choice matters on consoles with limited internal storage. The reported complete install uses more than one-tenth of the nominal capacity of a 1TB drive before accounting for system-reserved space. The actual saving depends on which modes a player removes; the inspected report does not give a fixed size for each possible combination.
Preload arrives before two launch dates
The Coalition's Xbox Wire announcement scheduled pre-install for September 29 at 8 a.m. Pacific on Xbox Series X|S, the Xbox PC app and Steam. Premium Edition buyers can start playing October 1 at 8 a.m. Pacific, while the worldwide launch follows October 6 at the same time.
Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass members join on October 6. Xbox Wire says the game will support Xbox Play Anywhere, and the package spans its origin-story campaign, the cooperative Horde Siege mode and competitive Versus play.
The Coalition also published final PC specifications after continued stability and performance work following its July open beta. Storage remains the most immediate concern before any settings menu appears, but the component manager means players can trade unused modes for drive space rather than treating the full 120GB-plus preload as indivisible.
