Rock Paper Shotgun reports that Gears of War: E-Day players experienced intermittent disconnects, login problems and other online-service disruptions.

Developer The Coalition attributed the problems to distributed denial-of-service attacks targeting the game’s online systems. A DDoS attack attempts to overwhelm a service with a flood of requests, which can block legitimate players from connecting.

In its Oct. 12 statement, the studio said its teams were continuing to monitor and mitigate the activity. It promised further updates if there were significant changes, but the statement did not identify an attacker, quantify the disruption or say that service had been fully restored.

The attacks occurred during E-Day’s first weekend after its Oct. 6 release.
