Based on more than just finances, a new report calculated the world's most valuable brands and their global reach.

Based on Brand Finance's 2022 Global 500 report, Visual Capitalist's Carmen Ang, Nick Routley and Pernia Jamshed put together an infographic of the world's most valuable brands.

Brand value, not to be confused with market cap, was calculated using metrics like brand strength (investments, equity, performance), royalty rate (sectors) and revenues.

  • Seven brands were deemed to be valued more than $100B in 2022: Apple, Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Walmart, Samsung Group and Facebook.

  • Apple, the world's most valuable brand according to the report, recorded the highest value ($335.1B) since the report began publishing in 2007. The 100th most valuable brand was the Royal Bank of Canada, and was worth $19B in 2022.

  • TikTok's brand value was one of last year's biggest increases, and grew by 215 percent year-over-year. In 2021 the app had 655.9 million users and projections say it will reach one billion by 2025.

  • There are 51 American brands among the top 100, followed by 24 from China, seven each from Japan and Germany, three each from South Korea and the UK and one each from France, India, Switzerland, Saudi Arabia and Canada.
