The Bureau of Labor Statistics' American Time Use Survey asks people around the country how they spent their time the previous day. Elliot Bentley at Datawrapper used this hour-by-hour data to chart the times of day people tend to be working across eight different types of occupation.

In every job type, the percentage of people working dips around lunchtime, which makes sense. For some people, though, the day looks drastically different to the average worker's โ€” like those in food preparation and serving, who tend to work far later into the day than employees in other roles, and transportation and material movement workers, who are on the job early and finish late.

People employed in business and financial operations seem to have it pretty good, with working days that tend to start late and finish early. Must be nice.
