Between 25 and 30 million Christmas trees are sold in America every year — but do you know where they come from?

Using data from the USDA Agricultural Census and Recreation.gov, Reddit user Joshua Stevens mapped how many Christmas trees are grown and sold in counties across the US, as well as where the National Forests offering Christmas tree permits are located.


Top Five Counties For Christmas Tree Production

  1. Ashe Country, North Carolina — 1,882,577

  2. Clackamas County, Oregon — 1,822,149

  3. Marion County, Oregon — 870,890

  4. Avery County, North Carolina — 763,552

  5. Missaukee County, Michigan — 571,219
