The average American orders takeout 4.5 times a month, but how much your order will cost you depends on where in the country you live.
NetCredit used GrubHub to find out the prices of popular menu items at major fast food chains in the biggest cities across each state. They then calculated the national average price for takeout from each restaurant, as well as the premiums people are paying to order food from them, by state.
Key Findings:
-
Anchorage, Alaska, and Honolulu, Hawaii, are paying the biggest premiums on takeout food of any cities in the study, shelling out 18 percent more than the national average.
-
Residents of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, enjoy the best value of takeout food overall, paying -12.14 percent below the country's average.
-
The state that pays the biggest premium for their takeout is Alaska (18.17 percent), while Texans pay the least (-9.58 percent).
