Chewbacca Has Criminally Little Screen Time In The Star Wars Movies
The R2-D2 erasure in the later films should be classified as a felony.

Have you ever gotten the feeling that certain characters get sidelined in the Star Wars movies over time? Well, your gut is right on this one โ€” the data mostly backs it up.

Redditor u/--TheForce-- went through and plotted the screen time for each character in every movie, and found that even beloved characters can get the boot as time goes on.

In the Original Trilogy, it's no surprise that Luke Skywalker takes the top spot, with his mug taking up 31, 28 and 26 percent of each film, respectively.

Han Solo takes second place in the first two movies, with 16 and 19 percent, respectively. But, by the time "Return of the Jedi" rolls around, he drops down to the third spot, with just 14 percent.

Meanwhile, Leia Organa only ranks sixth in "A New Hope," with 11 percent. "Empire Strikes Back" sees her in third place with 18 percent, and she finally hits second place in "Return" with 16 percent. Of course, the iconic (if mildly embarrassing) metal bikini probably has something to do with that.

Not to blow anyone's mind, but Qui-Gon Jinn takes the top spot in "Phantom Menace" with 26 percent of screen time, but doesn't make the cut for the other two Prequel flicks.

Anakin jumps from number two to number one for the next two flicks with 17, 34 and 38 percent of screen time, respectively.

And while Obi-Wan Kenobi has a miserable 16 percent (and fourth place ranking) in "Phantom," he a solid second in "Attack of the Clones" (24 percent) and "Revenge of the Sith" (27 percent).

It's also worth noting that Jar Jar sits pretty with 13 percent of screen time in "Phantom," but is barely seen after that. That poor gungan was done dirty.

The Sequels are where things get weird. Rey is in first place in all three flicks, with 31, 20 and 40 percent of screen time, respectively.

Finn plays second banana in "The Force Awakens" with 22 percent, but gets stuck in third place in the next two movies, with 12 and 18 percent, respectively.

And as for Poe? He's little more than a second-stringer in the "Force Awakens" and "Last Jedi," with six and eight percent of each. But, when "Rise of Skywalker" hits, he jumps into second place above Finn with 18 percent (a full minute more on screen).

Now, if you look at all nine of the mainline movies, you'll see that Anakin (13 percent), Luke (11 percent) and Rey (11 percent) are tightly packed at the top. No big problem there, since they're the leads in the three different trilogies.

However, C-3PO barely makes the overall list, with six percent, Chewie scrapes by with five percent and R2-D2 is below even that. These characters get to enjoy coverage in all three trilogies, so it's crushingly sad to see them get left behind in favor of the new soccer ball droid.
