We recently shared a visualization that showed the formerly popular men's names that have fallen out of use since 1900. This time, we're back with the women's names that were once in the country's top 1,000 ranking, but are now steadily dying off.

Like the previous post, this chart was made by Reddit user Phanyxx using US Social Security Administration data.

Key Findings:

  • Mildred was the sixth-most popular US girl's name in both 1912 and 1913. Since the early 1980s, though, it has fallen largely out of use.

  • Use of the name Gladys, which peaked at 11th place in the ranking in 1901, dropped off towards the '60s โ€” but saw a brief revival in 1990.

  • Despite peaking at 28th place 1901, Myrtle had fallen to the third-least popular name in the top 1,000 by 1964.
