After reading our article on the world's least powerful passports in 2024, you're probably wondering which passports are the strongest. Thanks to the below graphic by Visual Capitalist, based on Henley & Partners' Passport Index, you need wonder no more.
As we've previously explained, a passport's power is strongly correlated to the country's economic health β meaning prosperous countries, whose citizens can travel with the fewest restrictions, will have the strongest passports.
Six countries are tied for the most powerful passport in the world: France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Singapore and Spain all have visa-free access to 194 countries.
Finland, South Korea and Sweden are joint-second place on the list, with citizens of each country able to travel visa-free to 193 destinations.
The US ranks seventh in 2024 β one of its worst rankings of all time β thanks to diplomatic tensions and the country's "relative lack of openness to foreign tourists."
