AI-powered generative technology like large language models — which can comprehend and generate human language text by processing huge datasets — are relatively new, but their potential to transform our daily lives is becoming increasingly clear.

To understand which types of jobs will be most impacted by AI in the future, the World Economic Forum analyzed 19,000 occupational tasks to see whether they relied on language — and for the tasks that did, researchers worked out how much human involvement was required to complete them.

Based on that analysis, researchers were able to estimate which job departments have the highest potential to be disrupted by AI tools — and Visual Capitalist has presented the ranking in the chart below.

Information Technology will be most impacted by AI overall, with 73 percent of tasks predicted to be fully automated or significantly altered, and 26 percent of tasks likely to be somewhat disrupted.

Following behind are finance and customer sales, where 70 percent and 67 percent of tasks face significant disruption, respectively.
