The 2024 Oscars are just around the corner, and everyone seems to be divided on which film should be awarded Best Picture — but what if coffee could help us determine the most likely winner?
The team at Cafely scraped Product Placement Blog to identify the movies that feature coffee, as well as the number of coffee scenes in each one. Then, they analyzed IMDB data from 2002 to 2022 to see if any of those films had won Oscars — and used these findings to both calculate the impact of coffee on a movie's chances of winning an Oscar, and predict the Best Picture winner for this year.

According to Cafely's analysis, each coffee scene in a movie boosts its chances of winning an Oscar by 26.6 percent. Each feature of Starbucks specifically increases a film's odds by 20.3 percent.

Based on the number of coffee appearances in 2024's Best Picture nominations, Cafely predicts that "Killers of the Flower Moon" will win the prize this year.
