Inflation keeps rising, and so does the average movie ticket price. If you hate getting ripped off at the theater, Net Credit put together some maps and charts to show the most and least expensive average movie ticket prices in the US, based on state averages for two films ("Napoleon" and "Wish on a Saturday") in the 100 largest cites and their 10 largest cinemas. Affordability was determined by comparing the average cost of a ticket and each location's median hourly wage. Here's what they found.


Key Findings
  • The least affordable of US state for watching a movie is Tennessee, where it takes workers nearly 47.35 minutes of work to afford a ticket. In Wyoming, which has cheapest ticket price in the US ($9.10), a worker would need just 25 minutes to afford that.

  • Among cities, New York City, New York, has the priciest ticket in the US ($18), while Greensboro, North Carolina has the cheapest ($10.80).

  • One of America's cheapest tickets can can be found in Sterling Heights, Michigan, where a movie would cost you only $8.92 per person.
