The Gay Travel Index, which ranks the status of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer travelers across 213 countries, has updated its list for this year. Their rankings were based on categories ranging from marriage rights to the prevalence of the death penalty.

Nations like Spain, Canada, Malta, New Zealand and Portugal ranked among the safest places for inclusive travel.

A number of countries have moved up the rankings thanks to legalizing equal marriage (like Estonia!), and included list first-timers Uruguay, which became the first Latin American country on the list. On the other hand, the number of countries that impose the death penalty for being gay is still more than zero, unfortunately, and nations like Saudi Arabia, Iran, Afghanistan and parts of Russia were among the least safe places for travelers.

Good lord, there is not a safer country on this planet than the US for both the LGB and the TQ+ communities.

Based on their methodology, looks like they've concluded that Canada, Greenland, Australia, Scandinavia, half of South America, and all of Western Europe are safer. The US is in 41st place. What's your methodology?
