Ever wondered which US city would fare best if a zombie apocalypse broke out? No? Well, read this anyway.

To find out where in America people would have the best chance of making it out alive against the undead, LawnLove compared the country's 200 largest cities on the factors they deem crucial to zombie survival — vulnerability, hideouts, supplies, protection and mobility — and ranked them according to which are most prepared.

Key Findings:

  • Of the top 10 best cities for surviving a zombie apocalypse, three are located in Texas: Houston, San Antonio and Austin.

  • Despite their large populations, meaning more undead people to fight off, New York and Los Angeles also make the top 10, thanks to their access to survival supplies and escape routes.

  • Several cities at the bottom of the list — including Detroit, Jackson, Mississippi and Miramar, Florida — would struggle to survive a zombie hoard due to poor access to the essential items found in supermarkets, pharmacies and outdoor gear shops.

Great idea, but could definitely be flushed out more - seems quickly thrown together,

How about amount of food produced divided by population? Areas with large numbers of farms, fields and orchards would fare far better than places with lots of grocery stores that would be empty in a week.

Health levels make sense. Consider rates of chronic disease (diabetes, for example) since loss of medication and hospital access would quickly affect these people.

Maybe gun ownership / concealed carry permits per capita could be included alongside "hunting gear stores" - cities with high per capita gun ownership would fare better (assuming people don't go crazy and shoot each other - a real risk)

How about percent of population who are in the military? Areas with large military bases and veterans would have an advantage.

Population density? Less dense would be beneficial.

If you are relying on stores in the zombie apocalypse, you are probably screwed. Having a lot of people means those stocks will be depleted rapidly. Also, people are 50% of the problem in every zombie apocalypse scenario.

Fairbanks, AK here. So, this means zombies can survive -50F? I think not.

Fellow Islander here. I feel like we got left out of this again. It’s yet a 48 state continental comparison excluding us
