Valentine's Day is fast approaching, and whether you're spending it with a loved one, friends or by yourself, you might be planning on watching one of the many classic romantic comedies out there.
To find out which rom-coms are the country's favorites, Looper used IMDb and global search volume data to make a list of the top 15 films in the genre, then analyzed Google Trends data to identify which of those romantic flicks are most popular in each US state this year.
Key Findings:
-
The two most popular rom-coms in the US overall are "10 Things I Hate About You" and "When Harry Met Sally," ranking first in seven states each.
-
Joint for second-most-loved are Christmas classics "The Holiday" and "Love Actually," with both topping the list in six states across the country.
-
Modern rom-coms made the ranking, too β 2011's "Crazy, Stupid, Love is the favorite flick in Montana and North Dakota.
-
Looper left out data from around the holidays to prevent seasonal viewings from skewing their findings β but with the entire year considered, "Love Actually" was the most-loved movie in 44 states.
