Before we dive into this rather unsettling data, I want to reassure you all that the chances of your plane crashing are — according to one Harvard study, at least — just one in 1.2 million, while the odds of dying in a plane crash are much lower, at one in 11 million.

Similarly comforting numbers were offered by MIT professor of statistics Arnold Barnett in 2014, when he told ABC News: "If you take one flight a day, you would, on average, need to fly every day for 55,000 years before being involved in a fatal crash."

Still, accidents do occasionally happen, and research by Executive Flyers in 2023 revealed which global airlines have seen the highest number of plane crashes overall. The team at Visual Capitalist presented the ranking in the graphic below.

Two airlines rank joint worst for plane crashes: Air France and American Airlines, which both have 11 incidents to their name. Second place is shared by China Airlines and Korean Air, with nine crashes each.
