Analyzing Google data on global searches gives us a snapshot of the events and trends that have shaped each year — and, as this year draws to a close, Statista has visualized the top Google searches that sum up 2022.

When it comes to news, Ukraine was, unsurprisingly, the number one Google search this year. Following behind was the UK's Queen Elizabeth, who died in September.

In terms of people, searches for Johnny Depp increased the most in 2022 compared to the previous year. The second-most searched individual was Will Smith, following the Chris Rock slap controversy at this year's Oscars.
