55.9% of U.S. businesses on Ramp had an observed AI payment in September 2026

The Ramp AI Index reports that 55.9% of U.S. businesses on Ramp made an observed payment for an AI product or service in September 2026. Its table lists 55.2% for August and describes the change as a 0.6-percentage-point increase. The displayed percentages differ by 0.7 points, however, so the stated change does not follow from those figures.

Ramp defines adoption as the share of businesses with an observed monthly payment for an AI product or service in corporate card, invoice or ACH transactions it processes. Its methodology says the sample includes more than 85,000 American businesses. Ramp uses merchant names and line-item details from receipts and bills to identify qualifying purchases. The 55.9% figure is therefore a measure of payments visible on Ramp, not the share of all U.S. businesses using AI.

Ramp argues that transaction records provide a more timely and accurate measure than surveys, which it says may underreport AI adoption. It also says its own figures likely underestimate adoption and spending: Free tools generate no paid transaction, and employees may use personal accounts for work.
