After the last "Sonic The Hedgehog" trailer met widespread disgust, Paramount Pictures announced it is taking some extra time with the film to come up with a design for the iconic video game character that people don't actively despise.

There appeared to be yet another a new snag in Green Hill Zone when this extremely uncomfortable render of Sonic went viral on Twitter:

As it turns out, this image is not an official render from Paramount or Sega, but instead a piece of fan art from freelance illustrator and 3D artist Damir Martin:

Martin's work was picked up by a handful of blogs and spread around the internet as official concepts for the new movie. In a long Instagram caption, Martin debunks these rumors and also admonishes people poking fun at his work, sort of like I'm doing right now.

"My goal was not to recreate original Sonic that we all know. I wanted to create Sonic concept as a realistic character fitting for a serious sci fi super-hero thriller genre," Martin wrote on a subsequent post.

Since it was announced, the new half live action/half animated "Sonic The Hedgehog" movie has drawn ire for its art direction. One fan even re-edited the trailer to insert a classic version of the fastest mammal on two feet.

At Digg, we are holding out hopes that when the movie comes out it's beautiful, fun and captures the original magic that made the "Sonic The Hedgehog" series such a great time.

Alternatively, we would also be okay with this movie never seeing the light of day. Whichever is easier.
