Australian skateboard/skate wear company Globe does an excellent job of blending retro with modern. You can see it in their surf-inspired skateboards and their loose-fit striped tees. But nowhere is that then/now pairing better represented than with their Empire shoe. It's got the low-profile, two-tone subtlety of an adidas Gazelle plus skate-focused tech for better performance on the board (or just comfort walking down the street).

The uppers are natural and synthetic suede, with welded rubber creating the stripes. Cupsole construction offers better comfort on the board with a built-in cushioned footbed made from a proprietary lightweight EVA. Lots of grip on the sole round out the function. And since skate shoes aren't just about how they function, this novel take on a classic style gets the look just right.โ€‹
