A dark-colored dust devil or "coalnado" — which the local media has popularly dubbed it — was spotted swirling over a coal mine in Elkhorn, West Virginia. 

Randy Walters captured the shocking meteorological phenomenon on film, describing it as ear-piercingly loud. "I heard it before I saw it," he told Storyful.
