Between instant replay and the yellow first-down line, technology has fully integrated itself with modern football. But that didn't stop the referees for Sunday night's Raiders-Cowboys matchup from using a piece of paper to determine whether a critical, 4th-quarter spot was a first down or not. It was kind of ridiculous:
At a certain point, it seems especially ridiculous to measure the spot this closely, considering that the ball spot was decided by an official who was standing 20 feet away from the ball when the play ended. Right?
