The Best Segments From Letterman's Final Episode
END OF AN ERA

After 33 years and over 6,000 shows, David Letterman hosted his final episode of The Late Show last night amidst an outpouring of gratitude for his enduring influence. Although the entire episode was near-perfect, here are the segments that stood out most to us.

Top Ten

Of course, one Letterman's trademark bits is the satirical Top Ten. Last night's theme was "Top Ten Things I've Always Wanted To Say To Dave," which commenced a light roasting from guests such as Bill Murray, Tina Fey, Payton Manning and Jim Carey. Julia Louie-Dreyfus also used the opportunity to get a nice dig in on Jerry Seinfeld.

Musical Guest: The Foo Fighters

What better send-off than getting your favorite band to play your favorite song set to a montage of your career highlights? And the Foo Fighters did not disappoint, ripping through a particularly aggressive version of "Everlong." It says quite a bit about how dear the Foos are to Dave's heart when Bob-freaking-Dylan gets relegated to the penultimate show.

A Day In The Life

Part of last night's show was dedicated to the behind-the-scenes of episode preparation at The Late Show, which runs the gamut from fine-tuning jokes and doing script edits to throwing grapes into a glass of seltzer — we're led to believe the grapes thing is integral to being a legendary host.

Sign-Off

Finally, David took time to thank all the people who have helped along the way and, in typically dry Letterman fashion, added, "In light of all of this praise, merited or not, do me a favor: Save a little for my funeral."
