Guy Uploads A Ton Of Kmart Background Music To The Internet
KMART BANGERS

From the late '80s to the early '90s Mark Davis worked at Kmart. Part of his job was playing pre-recorded cassettes sent in from the corporate office. Luckily for us, he saved them and uploaded them to the Internet.

Within the archive are 56 tapes, with over 60 hours of music, muzak and in-store announcements. Apart from being a fantastic time capsule of the height of American consumerism, they're also great fodder for vaporwave artists.1 Here are just a few highlights.

October 1989

The synth intro on this is so dang smooth. We want it to last forever. Just like the '90s.

August 1992

How could anyone not want to shop to a paired-down version of Sting's "It's Probably Me?" Those suits devising the playlists for KMRT radio knew what they were doing.

November 1990

We just want to lay in the bedding section with this gentle sax track. It's so soothing. Just like that blue light.
