Over the weekend, James Bond author Anthony Horowitz spoke with the Daily Mail about his upcoming Bond novel: Trigger Mortis1. He then went on a rant about why he dislikes Daniel Craig as Bond, and why he doesn't think Idris Elba should be cast as the next spy hero.

"For me, Idris Elba is a bit too rough to play the part. It's not a colour issue. I think he is probably a bit too 'street' for Bond. Is it a question of being suave? Yeah."

Thankfully, as the Internet is want to do, people were quick to call him out on this nonsense.

Update 9/1: Anthony Horowitz issued an apology via Twitter.

DEFINITELY A COLOR ISSUE

Calling Idris Elba 'Too Street' Is Racist

This is bullshit. Horowitz might as well have hauled off and said, "I'm not racist, but…" which is one of the surest signs that you're, in fact, racist. It smacks of not wanting James Bond to wear a hoodie. That he's some stereotype waiting to besmirch the honor of MI6.

Dont think of a three-piece suit as conjoined triplets. Yeah, you can wear one with a sharp shirt and tie, but you can also break it up and make a few tweaks to give it an entirely new vibe. Let the equally versatile actor Idris Elba be your guide, the only man who could possibly star in both Pacfic Rim and Mandela

Sadly, This Is Not The First Time A Milquetoast Old White Dude Has Had Terrible Opinions On James Bond

This is all very sad news. Every rippling muscle is a book not read, a movie not seen or a conversation not held. That's why Sean Connery was my kind of Bond. He was 53 when he made his last Bond film, "Never Say Never Again." Women loved him because he was sophisticated and he could handle a maitre d' as well as a commie assassin. Western civilization was saved not on account of his pecs but on account of his cleverness and experience.

Out of all the Bond titles, this is, by far, the worst.
