The Worst 'Back To The Future Day' Promotional Garbage
GO AWAY, BRANDS
·Updated:
·

Didja hear? Wednesday, October 21st, 2015 was "Back To The Future Day." If you haven't heard,1 it was on October 21st, 2015 that Doc, Marty and Jennifer emerged in the future in "Back To The Future 2":

Naturally, everyone is very excited. Heck, some outlets are live blogging the day. Wherever excitement can be found, unfortunately, the brands are soon to follow, and the brands have been out in force today. Here's some of what we've been putting up with.

Pepsi Perfect

Pepsi: If you're going to shamelessly bilk fans of their hard-earned money with a stunt product, at least make enough of said promotional product to satisfy those fans:

The release date? October 21, 2015, naturally. Now imagine the stress when Back to the Futurites discovered that some of the Pepsi Perfect bottles went on sale early and that other people had snapped them up. Actually, you don't have to imagine it. Here's a selection of what they said.

[CNET]

Doc Brown

Goddamnit Universal. Let Christopher Lloyd enjoy his goddamn retirement.

Self-Lacing Nikes

Nike is donating the proceeds for the limited-edition sneakers to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, so we can't get too worked up about this one. But what happens if the shoes turn evil and the mechanized laces crush your foot into a powder?

Flying Cars

Uh, yeah, but you need a plane.

Mr. Fusion

Toyota? This is Delorean's movie through and through. Also, this car you're promoting came out last year.

Dehydrated Pizza

Just kidding, enjoy your bulgur (via The Guardian):

Pizza Hut teased a promotion, but hasn't released anything yet. Don't ruin it now, Pizza Hut.

Cubs Win The World Series

The Chicago Cubs were the closest they've been to the World Series since 2003. But then they got trounced in the NLCS by the Mets, concluding with a loss Wednesday night — which is why they're on the list with the rest of the Worst Brands.

Hoverboard Tech

The only good thing a brand did that relates to "Back To The Future" isn't even actually connected to the films and it wasn't released on "Back To The Future Day." It was, unlike the rest of this garbage, really effin' cool:

Also cool? DARPA (the government's crazy research division) asked some of its researchers about their predictions for 2045. Way to go non-brand! But before you leave, here's one more bad thing:

C'mon Ted, we were just having fun here.

We hope you've decorated your cave nicely.
