European red squirrel
The European red squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris) is native to Europe and parts of Asia. Typically reddish, though colour varies, it is smaller and more delicate than the grey squirrel. In the UK and Ireland, it is threatened by invasive grey squirrels, which came from North America, metaphorically planted a flag and stayed, outcompeting reds and spreading squirrelpox.
