Apple releases iOS 27.0.1 with fixes for iPhone 18 Pro Face ID restarts

Apple has released iOS 27.0.1, the first update to iOS 27 since that version arrived two weeks ago. The update is available over the air through Settings > General > Software Update.

The new release focuses on bug fixes, with Apple’s release notes highlighting several issues tied to the iPhone 18 Pro line. Apple says iOS 27.0.1 addresses a problem that could cause Face ID not to work properly on the iPhone 18 Pro. The company also says iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max may unexpectedly restart when Face ID fails to authenticate.

Apple’s notes list two additional fixes in the update: a color artifact that could appear in some 2x photos under certain lighting conditions at f/1.48 on a small number of iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max devices, and a touchscreen issue that could leave the display unresponsive when Notification Center and Control Center are opened simultaneously.

MacRumors reported that some iPhone 18 Pro users had complained that Face ID authentication could fail in situations such as unlocking a locked app. In some reported cases, the phone would freeze and then reboot. MacRumors also said some users saw a Face ID unavailable message during setup or ran into issues with the Require Attention for Face ID setting.

Alongside iOS 27.0.1, Apple also released iPadOS 27.0.1 and visionOS 27.0.1, plus iOS and iPadOS 26.7.1 for devices that have not been updated to iOS and iPadOS 27.

While several of the listed fixes are specific to Apple’s latest Pro iPhones, the update is available more broadly for iPhones that support iOS 27.
