Upfront prices versus game costs for new consoles in 2026
Engadget puts the Switch Lite at $230, though it can't play Switch 2 exclusives or dock with a TV.
TLDR
Engadget identifies the $230 Switch Lite as the cheapest mainstream new console upfront in 2026. But it says Nintendo rarely discounts older games, which could raise the cost of building a collection. Pricier handheld PCs may cost less over time for some players because stores like Steam and GOG frequently discount games.
