Miles Brundage Notes Anthropic Staff Take More Vacation
He attributes the gap to cultural attitudes toward work rather than racing intensity.
Miles Brundage posted that Anthropic people actually take vacation while the practice remains rarer at OpenAI. He stated the difference is not because OpenAI is racing harder, noting Anthropic has sped things up more in recent years. The pattern reflects a cultural grindset mindset instead. Jason Liu asked if the observation holds. Thariq Shihipar joked that Brundage is always on vacation. Leo Gao replied that OpenAI feels like home for those whose work consumes their life. Paula Dozsa suggested OpenAI employees return from time off to new org charts and possibly a new CEO. Roon joked that future Anthropic staff will mock vacation takers near the singularity.
Something I have noticed is Anthropic people actually take vacation. This is rarer at OpenAI Notably, this is not bc OAI is “racing harder,” if anything Ant has sped things up more in recent years, it’s just a cultural thing re: grindset mindset or w/e
