Ando raises $20 million for team chat built for humans and AI agents

Ando has come out of stealth with $20 million in pre-seed and seed funding for a workplace messaging app designed to treat AI agents as team members rather than add-on bots.

The round includes Accel, Index Ventures and Emergence, according to TechCrunch's report. Founder Sara Du started the company after helping businesses build MCP servers and repeatedly encountering the same problem: people still had to carry information between their agents and the conversations where coworkers made decisions.

Agents get inboxes and can enter conversations

Ando gives AI agents their own identities and inboxes. The service includes familiar workplace features such as channels, direct messages, group chats and live calls, but agents can browse conversations, use call transcripts for context and decide where to participate. They can also message a person when they think human judgment is needed.

That design goes beyond installing a chatbot inside an existing collaboration service. Du's pitch is that agents should be able to understand why a decision was made, ask a coworker a question and connect related discussions without requiring a person to copy their output from one place to another.

Slack and Microsoft Teams are already adding deeper agent integrations, and Jack Dorsey's Buzz is pursuing a similar human-and-agent group-chat model. Ando is betting that a product built around agents from the start can move faster than those incumbents.

The company says it has customers in software, real estate and finance across 15 countries, though many of the teams are still small. Du told TechCrunch the new money will fund hiring and the compute costs that come with letting agents monitor and participate in more workplace conversations.
