A large phone with a useful rear display

The 4a Pro has a 6.83-inch OLED screen and an aluminum body. A circular dot-matrix display on the back can show the time, timers, notification icons and charging information. It can also act as a rough viewfinder for selfies taken with the rear cameras.

That feature continues Nothing's effort to make the back of a phone functional rather than decorative. The tradeoff is size: the screen and body make this a two-handed device for many people.

The telephoto camera is the standout

The rear system pairs a 50-megapixel main camera with a 50-megapixel 3.5x telephoto and an 8-megapixel ultrawide. The Guardian's review found the main and telephoto cameras strong in good light, with the zoom camera producing sharp detail and convincing color.

The same review found softer low-light results, inconsistent exposure and a weak ultrawide sensor. Those qualifications matter more than a general claim that the phone takes attractive photos. The 4a Pro offers a distinctive design and a rare optical-zoom camera at its price, but it is not uniformly strong across every lens or lighting condition.
