Spotify reportedly targets first-quarter 2027 launch for AI covers and remixes

Spotify is aiming to launch an AI covers and remixes service in the first quarter of 2027, Anna Nicolaou reported for the Financial Times. The proposed service would let paying subscribers rework existing songs, such as turning a folk song into a dance track or making one artist appear to cover another's music. An unveiling around the Grammy Awards in February is possible, but the FT's sources cautioned that the timing is not final.

Spotify is considering charging subscribers an additional $4 to $5 a month, according to the FT. That price is not final either. Spotify declined to comment to the FT.

The FT reports that Spotify has signed licensing agreements with Universal Music Group, Merlin and Believe, while negotiations with Sony Music and Warner Music continue. Spotify and Universal have been meeting with individual artists, the publication reported. Artists would be able to choose whether to participate even if their label has signed a deal.
