Layne Riggs suffered a right-rear flat and finished Stage 1 two laps down in the NASCAR Truck Series championship race at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Jeff Gluck reported in his Nov. 7 live updates. A subsequent wavearound recovered one of those laps as Riggs tried to regain ground against title rival Kaden Honeycutt.
Gluck identified the season finale as a championship contest between Riggs and Honeycutt. They started fourth and fifth, respectively.
The tire concerns surfaced early. Gluck first reported that Riggs complained of a tire rub, then quoted him running sixth after 10 laps: “FYI, I hear cords coming off the tires.”
Gluck subsequently reported a right-rear flat and Riggs heading to pit road while the race stayed green. His reports did not establish whether the earlier tire-rub complaint caused the flat.
Corey Heim won Stage 1, with Honeycutt collecting eight stage points and Riggs finishing 34th, two laps down, Gluck reported.
Riggs then stayed out and took the wavearound, which Gluck reported brought him back to one lap down. At 1:22 a.m. UTC on Nov. 7, Gluck reported that Daniel Hemric had taken the lead and described Riggs, still on older tires after the wavearound, as “roughly half a lap down.” That update did not establish a return to the lead lap or give a final race result.
