Amyloid fibers reportedly ferry RNA into sperm in experiments
Columbia University reports that microscopy found fibers inside sperm cells, not just on their surfaces.
TLDR
Researchers at Columbia University report that amyloid fibrils bound RNA and helped it enter sperm in experiments. Embryos fertilized with sperm exposed to the RNA alongside fibrils could produce at least 10 times more green fluorescent protein than embryos from sperm exposed to the RNA without fibrils. The researchers suggest possible future delivery uses, but do not yet know what the shuttled RNA does inside sperm.
