TLDR

ESA says its Juice spacecraft flew by Earth on September 28, using the planet's gravity to adjust its course toward Jupiter and increase its speed by 3.5 km/s. Its operations team says Juice reacquired its signal after a planned long eclipse in Earth's shadow. ESA says another Earth flyby is planned for 2029, before Jupiter in 2031.

@esascienceJuice used the gravity of our home planet to alter its route to Jupiter using very little fuel. The flyby deflected @ESA_Juice by an angle of 20° compared to its pre-flyby path and increased its velocity by 3.5 km/s.5d
@esaoperations🛰️🌏🌚 While Europe slept through the night, @esa's #Juice teams were hard at work. After a planned long eclipse through Earth's shadow, Juice successfully completed its Earth flyby, passed closest approach, and reacquired signal today at 15:01 CEST. 📡✅ Another milestone on the way to #Jupiter!5d
@NSSofNTESA Juice completed an Earth gravity assist Mon Sep 28, reshaping its path toward Jupiter. Closest approach was about 8640 km over the Indian Ocean. The flyby raised Juice speed by 3.5 km/s. Next Earth flyby is 2029, then Jupiter arrival in 2031. Image Credit: ESA4d
