All five DNA and RNA nucleobases found in Ryugu asteroid samples
All five nucleobases were detected in both Ryugu samples, in roughly similar amounts across the five bases.
TLDR
Japanese researchers detected adenine, guanine, cytosine, thymine and uracil in two Ryugu samples returned by Hayabusa2 in 2020. Earlier work had identified uracil in Ryugu material, while a separate analysis found all five bases in Bennu samples. The finding concerns molecular ingredients that may have been widespread in the early Solar System; asteroids may also have delivered them to early Earth.
